How to Get a Driving License in Kuwait

Home / Blog / Driving License Guide

Moving to Kuwait or finally ready to get behind the wheel? Here's exactly how the licensing process works, from your first lesson to holding a valid Kuwait driving license.

1. Choose Your License Category

Kuwait's Ministry of Interior issues licenses for Automatic Car, Manual Car, Heavy Vehicle (Group 3 & 4 commercial), and Dual Control training for nervous beginners. Most residents start with Automatic or Manual Car, depending on the vehicle they plan to drive day-to-day.

2. Enroll With a Certified Instructor

Lessons should be taken with a licensed, MOI-recognized instructor. At Al Salmiya Driving School, lessons are taught in Tamil, English, Arabic, Hindi, and Malayalam, so language is never a barrier to learning safely.

3. Complete Structured Practical Training

A good curriculum moves progressively — starting in quiet parking areas, then building up to lane discipline, parking mastery, and finally the exact mock test route used at the MOI test center.

4. Pass the Theory & Signage Test

Alongside practical lessons, you'll need a working knowledge of Kuwait's road signs and traffic law for the written portion of the test.

5. Take the Road Test

Once your instructor confirms you're test-ready, you'll be scheduled for the official MOI road test. Students who train on the actual test route consistently see stronger first-attempt pass rates.

6. Receive Your License

After a successful pass, your Kuwait driving license is issued and you're legally cleared to drive on your own.
